Well, i've decided that i need to simply quit asking others to climb the tallest mountain in Africa and that i should climb it, as well. So, i've joined Team Mimosa, who is comprised of an awesome group of women, to climb in October 2011.
I don't particularly like the cold, i don't like to exercise and i am not thrilled about fundraising. Yet, i believe that what AFCA does is life-saving and therefore, worthy of support and of stepping out of myself to help others. Yes, i am the executive director of the organization, but i have never climbed a mountain in order to bring awareness to an issue. But here i am, starting my exercise routine (ugh) in order to get in shape for the big event.
joining me on this adventure are:
my sister and best friend - Pilar
her best friend and my other sister (by all means and purposes) - Claudine
my cousin - Jecana
my good friend - Lori
another dear friend - Colleen
new friends - Donna and her friend Maureen
workout friend - Stephanie
volunteer extraordinaire and friend - Betsy
two army ladies in Germany - Rachel and Amber
friend - Stephanie
another friend - Michelle
i am excited, nervous, happy, and worried about the cold when it comes to this journey. But most of all, i am thankful for the opportunity to do something of this magnitude in order to help others. i have met the children for whom we are climbing and i can't wait to tell them what i will be doing with this group of women!
i want to thank sponsors who are making this trip possible: Ahnu (provider of shoes for all Kilimanjaro teams), Mountain Khakis (provider of pants for all Kilimanjaro teams), Chaos (headgear for my team), Polarmax (underarmor for this team and discounted underarmor for all Kili teams), Badger Balm (provider of sunscreen and sore muscle rub for Kili teams), Women's Adventure Magazine (ads), and Darn Tough Socks (socks for Kili teams). Thank you, all, for supporting us and the wok we do at AFCA!
